WAUSAU, Wis. — The Wausau Transit Commission unanimously approved March 20 a staff recommendation to continue a local Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation goal of 0% and to file required documentation after consulting with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
Transit staff said DBE refers to minority- and women-owned firms and that state law requires DBE firms to register with the state. Staff reported only one state-registered DBE operates within the area and that business does not supply services used by the transit agency. The transit director said the FTA instructed the commission to take a formal vote to document the local goal.
Why it matters: Federal transit funding programs require agencies to set DBE participation goals and to document outreach efforts. Setting a 0% local goal reflects the current local marketplace as described by staff; the commission will revisit the goal if local DBE capacity changes.
Commission action: Giselle moved to approve the updated DBE documentation and Cathy seconded. The motion passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
What remains: Staff will file the updated documentation with the state and the FTA as required and will receive future updates if additional DBE‑registered firms enter the local market.
