Parks committee accepts BCI Burke playground donation for Lake Memorial Park event

The Green Bay Parks Committee voted March 12 to accept a playground equipment donation from BCI Burke valued at $69,553 and intended for use at the city’s draft events at Lake Memorial Park.
Parks Director described the proposal and said the equipment would be installed at Lake Memorial Park before the draft events and remain through the summer of 2025 so it can be used during the event series. "If we accept a donation, this equipment would be placed at Leight Park initially, at least through the duration of 2025," the Parks Director said. The director added that after the event the city could relocate the equipment or leave it at Lake Memorial Park permanently.
The director noted the city has purchased playground equipment from this vendor in prior years and that the donation is tied to BCI Burke’s sponsorship of the event. "I would just want to be open and honest, the city does purchase a lot of playground equipment from this vendor," the Parks Director said, adding that the city’s procurement process requires proposals from multiple vendors and committee scoring for purchases.
Committee members asked whether the packet included a map of the proposed installation site; staff said a final layout for the event venue had not been determined and that staff would finalize a location that could be permanent. Committee members also raised whether equipment branding would include the donor’s name; the director said staff would confirm whether BCI Burke branding would appear and report back to the council meeting.
A motion to accept the donation was made by Alder Kressley and seconded by Alder Wery; the committee approved the donation by voice vote.
The donation includes installation and footings; staff said the package covers installation. City staff will provide details on final siting and any branding prior to council consideration.
