Select Board members on March 24 gave an update on efforts to revive Kingston Days, reported available event funds and stressed that electrical repairs at the Plains are a prerequisite for holding large summer events.
Peter Bakke said earlier Kingston Days committee terms have expired and there are currently no appointed members; he is organizing a new volunteer group and a brainstorming session to assess feasibility. Bakke said the committee previously had a core of seven members and a total of about 10 volunteers and that organizers have about $2,000 available for logistics and supplies from prior event funds.
Bakke also told the board there is an outstanding administrative task: the committee had planned to move leftover Kingston Days funds into an anniversary account, but that transfer has not yet been completed; any transfer will require a vote of a reconstituted committee.
Board members agreed they will begin outreach to recruit volunteers and will treat Kingston Days planning as tentative pending vendor availability and municipal infrastructure readiness. Several members said the electrical upgrades discussed for the Plains must be completed before committing to a large festival date.
Why it matters: Kingston Days has been a major annual community event; restarting it requires volunteer capacity, vendor availability and safe event infrastructure. The town retains limited funds for event supplies if a committee re-forms.
No formal vote was taken; the board advised organizers to begin public outreach and to follow the usual appointment process for a committee if volunteers decide to form one.
