The Appropriations Committee on Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development voted to report Senate Bill 706 favorably. Senator DeSiglia sponsored the bill, which would designate a portion of U.S. 92/State Road 600 (Gandy Boulevard) between Southwest Shore Boulevard in Hillsborough County and Fourth Street North in Pinellas County as the James A. Sebesta Memorial Highway.
Senator DeSiglia described Sebesta’s public service career, noting his roles as Hillsborough County supervisor of elections and later service in the state Senate, including chairing the Senate transportation committee. The sponsor said Sebesta was committed to planning for growth and improving highway safety and provided the date of death as Jan. 29, 2024.
