Committee reports CS for SB 1058 to rename Gulf references to ‘Gulf of America’ in new materials

The measure, presented by Senator Collatiued on behalf of Senator Gruters, directs state agencies, district school boards and charter schools to update or create instructional and other materials that reference what the bill calls "Gulf of America" for materials produced after July 1, 2025; the bill does not require agencies or schools to replace existing materials created before that date.
Senator Collatiued said the bill aligns Florida with a presidential executive order and cited the geographic importance of the gulf to the state. Committee members raised no substantive questions in committee and no public speakers registered to debate the bill. Senator Collatiued closed and Amanda (committee clerk) called the roll; the committee recorded the measure as reported favorably.
