At its Feb. 17 meeting the West Bend Common Council took multiple formal actions across finance, community development and elections matters. Key outcomes are listed below.
Votes at a glance
- Resolution 73 (Parks donations): Accepted two donations to the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department — $4,800 from Gary Britton for acoustic panels at the Beach House community room and $25,000 from the Friends organization to support aqua-park inflatables at Regner Park. Motion carried.
- Resolution 51 (Next Generation Housing Initiative grant): Council accepted county grant funds to hire Tracy Cross & Associates for a housing study under the Next Gen Housing Initiative; staff said there is no required cash match other than staff time. Motion carried.
- MGT services contract: Council authorized a services contract with MGT (not to exceed $25,000, subject to attorney review) to lead the search for a new city administrator. Motion carried 7–1 (see separate article for details).
- Street vacation (Resolution 72): The council adopted a preliminary resolution to vacate approximately 750 feet of the westerly portion of Wingate Street to facilitate redevelopment of the WE Energies campus and set a public hearing for April 7. Motion carried.
- Polling locations (Ordinance 29): Council approved the permanent relocation of polling locations for Districts 1 and 8 effective April 1; staff will mail postcards, update voter information and post notices at current locations to redirect voters. The council suspended rules to allow first-reading approval that night, then approved the ordinance.
- Ordinance repealing and replacing Municipal Code §2.11 (salaries and expense allowance): Council completed second reading and approved an update to aldermen and mayor salary/expense allowances. The motion passed by roll call, 6–2 (Aldermen Schmidt and Sparks recorded “no”).
Other actions and notes
- The finance committee accepted the two parks donations (see Resolution 73) and adjourned.
- The council moved to closed session under Wis. Stat. §19.85(1)(c) to discuss an interim administrator; the body recorded roll-call votes to enter closed session and indicated there would be no action taken after closed session.
All listed votes were taken during the Feb. 17 meeting; motions were made and recorded on the public record.
