West Bend updates municipal code to reflect sewer rate increase that took effect Jan. 1, 2025

The West Bend Board of Public Works and the Common Council moved this month to amend the municipal code so it matches sewer rates already approved and implemented by the utility.
Ruth, a city staff member who presented the item to the Board of Public Works, told the board the changes “incorporate the step 2 increase that became effective on 01/01/2025 and ensures that the code reflects the current rate structure.” The Board of Public Works voted to approve the ordinance amendment.
On Feb. 3, the Common Council took up the same amendment (ordinance amending sections 13.17 and 13.18 of the municipal code) and approved it on first reading. Council members noted the rates were already in effect; as Ruth told the council, “This is just incorporating them into the Municipal Code to update it so it's correct. It reflects the current rates.” The council passed the first reading by voice vote.
The amendments update the written municipal code to mirror rate decisions previously approved by the Board of Public Works and the Common Council and recently implemented by the utility on Jan. 1, 2025.
No member requested additional information at the meetings where the change was presented; staff indicated the ordinance simply aligns the code with already effective rates. The amendment references municipal code sections 13.17 and 13.18 (sewer service charges).
The ordinance will be published in the municipal code as amended and is intended to avoid discrepancies between adopted rates and the codified language that describes sewer service charges.
