Commission recommends vacating portion of Wingate to facilitate WE Energies project

The Planning Commission on Feb. 4 recommended the Common Council proceed with a street vacation for approximately 750 feet of Wingate east of Stockhausen Lane to support a redevelopment project by WE Energies.
City staff said the street vacation would eliminate the western 750-foot segment of the right-of-way, convert existing utilities in that segment to private responsibility and allow construction of a cul-de-sac and termination of the water main. The vacation is intended to help facilitate a WE Energies utility yard and related site redevelopment. The commission’s recommendation will move to the Common Council, which must pass a preliminary resolution and complete required public-notice steps.
A commissioner speaking in favor said the segment is rarely used by cars and that the WE Energies development will benefit the city. The motion to recommend vacation carried without recorded opposition.
