BID strategic-plan survey underway; façade grant committee reviews six projects

The West Bend City BID reported on Feb. 4 that an outreach survey for the BID strategic plan has drawn 38 responses so far — 21 property owners and 17 business owners — with a closing date of Feb. 15. Staff said they will compile and circulate final results to the board after the deadline and convene the strategic-plan committee before the next BID meeting to discuss short- and long-term priorities.
Chris (staff member) told the board that about 100 owners and businesses received the survey and the staff intends to do a final push to increase response rates before the Feb. 15 deadline.
Separately, the façade grant committee reported five submissions covering six projects. Committee members said they will meet next Tuesday to review the applications. Mark (board member) said applicants who request but do not receive funding often proceed anyway, and that past projects have generally been maintained by property owners.
The board discussed whether grants should include maintenance requirements but did not adopt any new conditions; the façade committee meeting will consider that question. Visitors and public attendees are welcome at that committee meeting, the board said.
Why it matters: The strategic-plan survey results will inform funding priorities, downtown improvements and potential partnerships. The façade grant selections will decide which building improvement projects receive BID support this cycle.
