West Bend City committee introduces new communications manager Nicole Bell

The City of West Bend Community TV Committee on a regular meeting introduced Nicole Bell as the committee’s new full-time communications manager and heard an overview of the work she has begun since starting in September.
Nicole Bell, who said she grew up in West Bend and studied English and journalism at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, told the committee she spent several years in the publishing industry doing writing, editing and social media work before joining the city. “I basically got to sign in on [an external account] and make posts about the city and the things we're doing,” Bell said of a recent Instagram takeover that she said drew new followers to the city’s accounts.
Committee staff members credited Bell with helping with the city’s recent social media growth. “She started in September with us, full time and really hit the ground running,” a staff member identified in the meeting as Jess said. The committee and staff noted Bell has assisted with a parks drive-through pumpkin-patch event, outreach for local businesses and planning to increase the city’s presence in publications and on visual platforms such as Instagram.
Committee members welcomed Bell and offered to connect in person when public-health conditions allow. Justice Bridal, identified in the meeting as District 7 alderman, introduced himself to the new manager during the meeting’s roll-call introductions.
Bell told the committee she will continue to focus on increasing engagement among younger social-media users and seeking opportunities to place West Bend stories in outside publications. She said her immediate priorities include visual posts and video content to grow the city’s outreach and support downtown businesses.
The committee did not take a formal vote related to the hire during the meeting; Bell’s appointment was presented as already in effect.
The committee adjourned after setting a tentative schedule for 2021 meetings and saying staff would circulate dates by email.
