Riverwalk Freedom Festival asks council to continue prior grant support

Organizers of the Riverwalk Freedom Festival told the Milford council during a workshop that the event draws broad local support and they are asking the city to continue the same grant support they have received in prior years.
The Riverwalk Freedom Festival’s chairperson, Angela Dorey, said the event has deep ties to the community and credited city departments and volunteers for supporting the festival’s operations. "It is part of who I am now and it is Milford," Dorey said, noting this will be her 14th year as chairperson.
Dorey and Joe Schmeiser, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford, reviewed the event’s recent attendance and spending breakdown in packet materials provided to council. Dorey said the packet includes photos, a line-item explanation of how city grant money was allocated and a request to continue the same support covering 2024 through 2026.
A council member thanked organizers for the itemized spending information. "Thank you for putting the itemized spending in here. That's very helpful," the council member said.
The workshop included no vote or formal appropriation. City council members did not take action at the meeting; festival organizers said they and Chamber staff would be available to answer follow-up questions as council considers budgets.
The presentation emphasized partnership with Parks & Recreation, the police department and the fire department; no new funding amount was announced at the workshop.
