Committee recommends three appointments to Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission

Doctor Nikita Ladd, administrator of the Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission, introduced the nominees: Catherine Stewart (a reappointment), David Friedland and Jeff Ueland. "Miss Stewart is a reappointment and has been a model commissioner for over the past 6 years, bringing over 25 years of experience on solid and hazardous waste and is currently serving as the chair of the committee," Ladd said. She described the commission as a nine-member body that adopts rules to minimize waste and protect public health.
Stewart described her work as an environmental consultant and hydrogeologist focused on landfill groundwater monitoring and long-term post-closure protections. She said she contributes expertise on groundwater direction and quality before, during and after landfill operations. Friedland said his career has been in the solid waste and recycling industry and currently leads waste-diversion and hazardous-waste work at Denver International Airport. Ueland described more than 30 years of experience in regulated industry and management of engineering groups involved with process development and compliance.
Committee members offered brief praise for the nominees’ willingness to serve. A committee member moved to forward the three nominations to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation and to place the confirmations on the consent calendar. The committee’s recommendation passed unanimously.
