Commission outlines intake process, votes to go into executive session to discuss intake matters

Commission members discussed how the commission handles intakes for alleged discrimination and voted to go into an executive session to discuss a handful of intake matters.

Pastor David Wilson described the commission’s intake process and encouraged other commissioners to help by distributing and collecting intake forms when they encounter potential complainants. He said commissioners may save completed intake forms and email them to the chair and that, in many cases, an initial intake takes only 5 to 20 minutes. Wilson said the state process can allow up to a year to pursue a complaint and urged commissioners not to promise outcomes to complainants.

After the discussion the commission approved a motion to move into an executive session to discuss intake files; the motion carried on a voice vote. A commissioner indicated the executive session would be short and would cover a “couple of intakes.”
