Capital committee reports progress: chiller testing, bus garage, Van Wyke asbestos removal and forthcoming traffic study

Trustee Eddie Sloshower, chair of the capital improvement committee, updated the board on facilities projects during the March 24 meeting.

Sloshower said the district expects to test a newly installed chiller and air‑conditioning system at Fishkill Plains Elementary when temperatures reach the 60s. Kitchen hood work is scheduled for summer. Work continues on the bus garage at Wappingers Junior High; the project is expected to be complete by summer. Van Wyke’s auditorium floor repair will include asbestos removal this summer after the district secured SED approval.

Construction documents for a press box at John Jay are underway. The committee expects to complete new athletic sound systems at both high‑school football fields, weather permitting. Sloshower also said a traffic study for Myers Corner should arrive this week; the committee will review it and share results with the full board.

The capital committee’s next meeting was scheduled for the first Wednesday in April.
