HOLMEN, Wis. — The Holmen School District Board of Education on March 24 approved its published meeting agenda and the consent agenda, then voted unanimously in a roll-call to adjourn into closed session to discuss base wage negotiations.
Board Clerk Maggie Smith called roll at the start of the meeting and confirmed a quorum of seven board members. Board member Chris Lau moved to approve the agenda; Khadija Islam seconded and the motion passed on a voice vote. Later in the meeting Chris Lau again moved to approve the consent agenda; Khadija Islam seconded and the board approved that motion by voice vote.
Before adjourning to closed session the board passed a motion, read aloud by Smith, to move to closed session under Wisconsin open meetings law. Smith read the cited legal basis as Wisconsin Statutes § 19.85(1)(c), saying the meeting would consider “employment, promotion, compensation, or performance evaluation data of any public employee,” specifically base wage negotiations. Smith moved the closed-session motion; Chris Lau seconded. The board took a roll-call vote with the following recorded: Bridget Todd Robbins — yes; Barb Wench — yes; Jennifer Deak — yes; Khadija Islam — yes; Chris Lau — yes; Lindsay Need — yes; Maggie Smith — yes. The motion carried unanimously.
