Laura Lerf, family and community engagement specialist, presented the resolution and was joined at the podium by Captain Matthew Olsen and Tiffany Johnson from NSA Hampton Roads. Lerf said every school in the district has a Purple Star designation and that the resolution highlights the Commonwealth’s status as home to more than 77,000 school‑age military‑connected children.
The resolution notes the district’s participation in the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children and encourages wearing purple on April 9, 2025, as a show of support for military-connected children. Michael Lemonia moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded by Norman Poole. The board recorded the motion as carried with all board members voting yes.
The resolution was attested by members of the board, the superintendent, and the clerk of the board.
