The Chesapeake Public Schools Board, meeting in closed session on matters of personnel and student discipline, approved expulsions for three students, upheld the superintendent’s recommendation in a separate appeal, and voted to approve the superintendent’s contract and authorize the board chair to sign the agreement.
Board action followed a motion to convene in closed session under the Code of Virginia §2.2-3711(A)(1) and (A)(2) to discuss personnel matters and student disciplinary matters. After returning to open session, the board moved on recommendations resulting from closed deliberations.

Superintendent Cotton recommended expulsion of student number 1 under conditions discussed in closed session. The motion to expel that student was moved by Doctor Walker and seconded by Kim Scott; the board recorded the motion as carried with all board members voting yes.
In a separate item arising from closed session, Michael Lemonia moved to support the superintendent’s decision on an appeal referenced to student 4 under School Board Policy 9-21; Malia Huddle seconded. The motion passed, with the board recording the motion as carried with all board members voting yes.
Finally, the board moved to approve the superintendent’s contract as presented and authorized Chair Angie Swigert to execute the agreement on behalf of the board. Michael Lemonia moved the approval; Malia Huddle seconded. The board recorded that the motion carried with all board members voting yes.
