Resident urges council to advance North Main Street corridor plan

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — During audience comments at the March 12, 2025 Fond du Lac City Council meeting, resident Laura DeGaulier urged the council to move forward on the North Main Street corridor development plan and to market the site to attract developers.
DeGaulier said the plan, created by a consultant with citizen input through surveys and a public meeting, "should not be allowed to gather dust." She told the council it had been four months since the item appeared on the agenda and asked for action to implement recommendations, including online marketing of the site and establishing a tax incremental financing (TIF) district because of the area’s history of blight.
"As a tax paying citizen of our city, I'm bringing to your attention that it has been 4 months since the item was on the agenda," DeGaulier said. "Their ideas and look for ways that we can work with them to make this plan become a reality."
The council did not take formal action on the North Main Street corridor during the meeting. The comment occurred in the public comment period; no staff motion or vote followed at this meeting. Councilmember Tom Schussler had previously brought the corridor item to the council in November, according to DeGaulier.
DeGaulier specifically recommended marketing the area online and pursuing TIF designation as an incentive to developers. The transcript does not record a staff response or a council directive on next steps during this meeting.
