Superintendent Dr. Villareal updated the Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board of Education on March 24 about the district’s mass communication system and an upcoming vendor platform transition.
Dr. Villareal said the district’s current mass notification and app products — described in the meeting as the system that sends snow‑day calls, text messages and email newsletters and powers the PLCS mobile app — were previously reported as discontinued by the vendor, prompting a district request for proposals late in 2024. After vendor demonstrations and scoring, the vendor issued a 2025 product roadmap that preserves and upgrades the district’s existing capabilities. "What we currently have as mass notification is going to be transitioning to a platform called messages X. R. Enterprise," Dr. Villareal said, adding that the user interface and back‑end security and speed will improve for administrators while families should not notice immediate changes.
The superintendent said the district’s on‑device mobile app will remain in its current form until the vendor completes migration work; the vendor expects an upgraded district app platform in fall 2026 that will include two‑way messaging between families and authorized staff, and additional integrations for grades, cafeteria balances and library records. Dr. Villareal noted that the vendor agreed to preserve the district’s flat pricing for the remainder of the contract despite the platform upgrades and committed to provide training at no additional cost.
Christopher (district staff) said the two‑way messaging capability is a requested feature from parent and staff surveys and could provide a district‑approved channel for teachers, coaches and sponsors to communicate with families without using personal devices. The administration told the board it will provide asynchronous training this spring and live training over the summer to prepare staff for the transition.
No formal board vote was recorded on the update; the superintendent asked the board to review the addendum and indicated a request for formal approval would be brought at the next board meeting.
Dr. Villareal closed the presentation by asking the board to anticipate administrative follow‑up and training materials before the next school year.
