Staff said the playground will replace aging swings, add four new swings and expand the surfacing area to create one unified play area.
Commissioners also authorized staff to proceed with procurement for seven small pavilions at McCollum Park, and they discussed adding three new batting cages to three county sports complexes (LTV Sports Complex, Jim Silva Sports Complex and Domino’s Sports Complex). For the batting cages staff recommended using a job‑order contracting (JOC) method available through a cooperative contract to speed procurement; commissioners debated potential premiums for out‑of‑town contractors and whether to instead go to competitive bid. The court approved moving forward with the JOC approach while directing staff they could also solicit competitive pricing to compare vendor responses.
Staff briefed the court on going out for an RFP to construct permanent restrooms at VC Park and to solicit designs and pricing for restroom/concession/storage facilities at the new soccer complex. Commissioners approved the RFPs and said they will coordinate design specifications with ongoing work on the Chambers Parkway/soccer complex project.
Ending: Staff will finalize procurement documents, pursue JOC quotes and competitive bids where appropriate, and return with award recommendations; playground equipment procurement will proceed and pavilions and restroom solicitations will be advertised.
