The Finance Committee approved a general services contract with New Terra Corporation, Inc. for $249,984 to rent six aerators for a six-month term, providing supplemental aeration in a single wastewater basin while the city repairs permanent equipment.
Mike Dozier, Wastewater Management Division Director (joining via Zoom), told the committee the rental units are temporary pontoons that provide additional oxygen while staff and contractors repair the plant’s permanent aerators. Dozier said the city expects work to be completed within the six-month rental term and is also pursuing the purchase of mounted, movable aerators that can be deployed inside basins if future issues arise.
Councilor Lee Garcia asked when the city will have its permanent aerators back online; Dozier said the estimate is about one-and-a-half to two months for bringing the other basin back online, and the six-month rental term is intended to cover equipment needs while repairs proceed.
Motion to approve the contract passed on a committee roll call. Committee members said they will monitor progress and expected timelines for returning the system to permanent equipment.
Ending: The rental contract was approved; staff will continue to provide timeline updates as repairs progress.
