County staff reported $79,000 budgeted in the general fund for roof work based on a prior quote.
Contractors and staff warned that the jail building is shifting and settling in places; that movement stresses seams and penetrations and can continue to cause leaks even after major repairs. Commissioners and staff agreed to proceed with prioritized, preventative repairs — focusing on known problem penetrations and vent flashings — rather than undertaking a full $200,000 overhaul at this time. The court left the purchase order status to staff and directed repairs be made as needed from the existing budget.
On the juvenile probation awning, staff presented two new quotes for installing awnings on the front and back doors: one verbal quote at about $3,800 and a written quote at $8,296. Commissioners asked for a third written bid and an apples-to-apples job description so the court can compare prices before acting.
No formal motions to amend the budget or award contracts were approved during the meeting. Staff were directed to obtain the third bid for the awning and to schedule targeted jail roof repairs within the existing budget.
