Dunn County communications announces electronics recycling day, weekly digest and comprehensive-plan outreach

Chris, the county communications lead, updated the committee on outreach and public information projects including an electronics recycling collection day, a weekly county-board email digest and a communications series to promote the county comprehensive plan.
Chris said communications coordinated with third-party electronics recycling partners and will host a free county electronics collection day at the Fairgrounds in May; specific accepted items were listed in a press release distributed by communications staff. "The cool thing about that ... is they have certain numbers that they need to meet in terms of recycled materials. So they support these kinds of programs and at no cost to us," Chris said.
Chris also said he began a weekly email to the County Board and staff earlier in the year to improve internal awareness of county activities. "I started a weekly email out to the county board and staff," he said, and reported positive feedback on the digest's reception.
On outreach for the Dunn County comprehensive plan, communications staff are producing a short video series called "How Dunn Works," beginning with Tammy Traxler, to explain the comp‑plan process and drive survey responses. Communications is also supporting partner organizations' events and public notices, including assistance for United Way fundraising and other county press releases.
Doug Mel is the county's outside communications contractor; Chris said Mel works on a variable-billing basis for items such as the electronics collection press release. Krista and Deanna were credited for social-media posting and newsletter distribution that help promote classes and county events.
Committee members asked clarification questions about duplication with regional planning programs and about the schedule of meeting rooms for upcoming sessions; Chris confirmed the next committee meeting date and room changes ahead of tax season.
