New Milford middle school on schedule and on budget; district previews adjusted start times

District administrators told the Milford board on Jan. 16 that the new middle school project is progressing on schedule and under budget and that preliminary secondary school start times are being reworked to accommodate efficient bus routing.
Board and staff presenters displayed construction photos showing drywall, ceiling grids, learning stairs and ductwork, and said the furniture bid returned under budget. “We are on schedule, we’re on budget, and that’s great news,” a district presenter said during the update.
Administrators outlined a proposed change to next year’s secondary start times to help with routing and substitute availability. The current plan being studied would set middle school start time at approximately 7:15 a.m., returning the building to a timeframe the district used in 2020, and place the high school start at either 8:00 or 8:15 a.m. The schedule aims to clear campus traffic tiers so third‑tier drop‑offs conclude around 8:45 a.m. and the school day ends near 4:00 p.m.
Officials said the district is working with Peterman on routing efficiency and will present feasibility and cost information at the Feb. 7 update. “We’ve asked to have the next set of information regarding whether this is something that’s feasible for us, financially, efficiency wise, be February 7,” the presenter said.
Ending: The board said it will post construction photos and return with a detailed feasibility report on start times and transportation at the February meeting.
