The chief explained that the town created the two‑way communications fund to give businesses an alternative to installing bidirectional amplifiers in buildings; the fund has accumulated receipts that the town is now using to test a repeater system on fire apparatus. "Essentially, what we're doing is putting, a repeater system for communications on our fire apparatus. This is gonna be the test unit," the chief said, adding that the fund currently holds about $90,000 and the town intends to outfit additional vehicles as the fund grows.
Council members approved the purchase by voice vote. The purchase will be drawn from the two‑way communications ordinance fund; the council also noted the department will trial one unit before wider deployment.
