Tangipahoa Council adopts animal-control fee schedule; introduces solid-waste, fire-district and development ordinances

The Tangipahoa Parish Council unanimously adopted an ordinance to amend the parish animal-control fee schedule and, in the same meeting, introduced three additional ordinances for public hearing on March 24, 2025.

The animal-control fee schedule amendment had been reviewed and approved by the finance committee; Councilman Engraff moved for adoption and the motion passed by roll call with all 10 members voting yes. The council identified no public questions during the meeting before the vote.

Council members then introduced three ordinances and approved them on first reading by roll call (10-0): TP Ordinance 25-04 (amending chapter 38, solid waste — cleanup language approved by the DRC committee), an ordinance amending chapter 40 regarding fire protection district board appointments to permit municipal governing authorities to appoint a member when districts include municipalities, and an ordinance amending chapter 36 (planning and development) to require a wetlands jurisdictional determination letter or wetlands permit and endangered-species determination for development sites over two acres as part of drainage standards.

The council recorded the dates for the public hearings as March 24, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. during its regular meeting. Several council members noted the ordinances had been vetted by committee (finance and DRC) before introduction.
