Administrator: UP State Fair trust-fund extension denied; county and fair authority may revisit project later

Delta County administration told commissioners Tuesday that the Department of Natural Resources denied an extension request for a UP State Fair Authority Trust Fund grant, rendering the grant period expired.
Administrator Young said staff and UP State Fair Authority management worked through multiple obstacles — including pandemic delays, staff turnover and changes in service providers — and had prepared a revised timeline that would have completed the project by October–November 2025. The grant authority declined the extension; the UP State Fair Authority remains interested in pursuing the project at a later date.
Young also updated the board on multiple county items: the Delta County Veterans Affairs Committee and the separate Delta County Veterans Council are distinct entities (the council is a nonprofit); a pre-bid meeting for an airport project is scheduled for March 31 at 1 p.m.; the planning commission chair is coordinating master-plan outreach to neighboring planning commissions and municipalities; and an opioid task-force RFP deadline is March 31.
No motion was required; the administrator's report was placed on file by board action.
