Cascade County environmental health staff updated the Board of Health on routine permitting, training and planned equipment and IT purchases.
Rhonda (Environmental Health) said the department has issued 18 septic permits so far this year and is processing additional perk permits. She reported six new certified septic installers from a recent class and said staff are updating classroom materials for next year.
Rhonda described a proposed sludge-handling policy that is under review at the county attorney's office and said the guidance would set parameters for how installers can use a particular product, not a formal product approval. She also said the department has received a quote of about $3,500 for a new digital airflow meter to improve accuracy for air-quality checks and expects to cover the purchase with air-quality grant funding.
Staff said at least one sanitarian will attend required smoke-school training to meet air-quality grant capacity requirements. Rhonda said only about 4% of inspections have been completed so far this year but noted that most staff time to date has been for planning and reconciling last year's backlog.
The department received a migration and software quote from HS GovTech for transfer of data for septic complaint and temporary food programs; staff plan a meeting with IT to discuss next steps.
Board members asked no formal action on these operational updates; staff will return with policy language on sludge and budget or procurement details as needed.
