The Cascade City-County Board of Health unanimously approved Resolution 25-02 on Oct. 12, 2025, formally expressing support for Medicaid expansion measures being considered in the state legislature.
Abigail, public health staff, told the board the county packet included materials on Medicaid expansion’s health and economic impacts and county-level estimates. She said expansion in the county would cover additional adults (the packet lists an increase of 6,030 adults as of November of last year) and summarized material on how expansion affects employers and state revenues.
Laurie Glover moved the motion and Rachel seconded. Chair Commissioner Briggs called for public comment; none was raised and the board voted to approve the resolution.
Board members discussed monitoring multiple related bills that carry similar policy objectives; Abigail warned many concepts can appear in several separate bill drafts. The board agreed to use the resolution as a standing position so a member could testify on behalf of the board when a specific bill is assigned a hearing. Abigail said she would circulate bill-tracker details and suggested she would flag bills where the board’s support would be most useful.
Members noted current activity in the legislature: the chair reported the Medicaid-expansion renewal bill had passed the House with a two-thirds vote and moved to the Senate. The board asked staff to notify members when testimony or signatures are requested.
