The Richland County Board adopted Resolution 25-23 to accept $21,545 in donations from the Simons Recreation Complex Foundation for equipment replacements and upgrades, and separately approved Resolution 25-24 to assign oversight of the county’s tennis courts, soccer field and walking trails to the director of the Simons Recreation Complex.
The donations cover replacements including two treadmills, two recumbent machines, a second wheelchair-accessible exercise machine, and hand weights. County staff said memberships at Simons have increased by about 600 members in the last seven months and are back to pre-COVID levels (about 2,400 members); staff and supervisors said equipment upgrades and facility investments contributed to rising membership and longer-term subscriptions.
Supervisor Cooley moved the donation resolution and Supervisor Frank seconded; the board accepted the gifts by voice vote. For the oversight resolution, the board clarified that the tennis courts, soccer field and walking trails will be assigned to Simons’ director for management and maintenance; that motion carried by voice vote as well.
Supervisors noted the soccer field has been used by the school district in the past and that oversight assignment clarifies management responsibilities as campus reconfiguration continues.
