The Skagway Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved Conditional Use Permit 2025004 on Feb. 13, 2025, allowing the Skagway Traditional Council to heat and serve food in the Industrial Light zone.
The application drew little debate. Commissioners amended the main motion to state the required findings — protection of public health, non-injury to neighboring uses, harmony with the comprehensive and coastal management plans, and no substantial decrease in nearby property values — and each finding passed by roll call. The final motion to approve the permit by proposed resolution carried 3-0.
No specific operational conditions were added during the hearing beyond the adopted findings. The permitting official had no additional comments on the record. As with other permits, the approval does not replace required health, building, or fire marshal reviews that the applicant must complete before operating.
The commission recorded the action by roll call: Silva, McBee and Outcall voted in favor; one commissioner was absent.
