Al, the clinic director, said the flat $10 shipping fee replaces a more complex $50 rule-based fee for specific tests after staff discussed billing practices with Melanie Hampton, the clinic’s billing and coding manager. "After some discussion with our billing and coding manager, Melanie Hampton, in finding out that typically, insurance companies will cover certain fees, it became apparent that it would just be easier to do a flat fee for everything," Al said.
Thomas moved that the committee recommend the amended fee structure to the full board; Baker seconded the motion. The committee voted to pass the recommendation. The committee chair recorded the vote as passed; a full roll-call tally was not specified in the committee record.
The committee described this as an amendment to the fee schedule portion of the clinic’s billings-and-collections policy rather than a change to the policy language itself. The recommendation now goes to the full board for consideration at a future meeting.
