The Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District Board of Education recognized its Falcons of the Month and heard a presentation on Colonial Village Elementary’s annual invention convention.
Board members said honoring students is a highlight of the school year. The board read a certificate of recognition describing the district’s educational philosophy and named students across schools; those named in the meeting included Thomas Morrow, Christopher Luciano Capasile, Aria Odabachian, Amaya Henderson, Dominic Miller, Xavier Jacobs and James Yarger III (attendance noted for some students as not present).
Colonial Village teachers Jessica Sheehan (special education teacher) and Christina Mullett (second-grade teacher) reported that Colonial Village hosted its invention convention on Feb. 27 with 27 entries and about 45 student inventors across grades K–5. Mullett said, “We had 5 inventors from kindergarten, 1 inventor from first grade, 9 inventors from second grade, 7 inventors from third grade, 12 inventors from fourth grade, and 10 inventors from fifth grade.” Individual and staff-choice awards were presented; 10 inventions will move on to the Western New York invention convention at the Buffalo Museum of Science at the end of March. The board recessed for a short reception where families could view student projects.
Board members and the superintendent congratulated all recognized students and thanked families and staff for supporting the events.
