Commission approves $36,800.97 to repair effluent line at Rolling Green wastewater irrigation fields

David Burchetta, speaking for Lyon County utilities, told commissioners that horses and field activity at the Rolling Green irrigation fields have repeatedly damaged the effluent disposal pipe and that repairs using previously used materials would not hold up.
Burchetta explained the county will retrofit the irrigation line using a more rigid pipe in inventory and purchase necessary retrofit fittings and materials. He said the cost is an unplanned capital expense but that funds exist in the Dayton Sewer Fund to cover it. “We need to get this equipment to repair a portion of the fields,” Burchetta said.
Commissioner Hendricks moved to approve the expenditure of $36,800.97 to Western Nevada Supply from the Dayton Sewer Fund; Commissioner Mulcahill seconded. Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve the expenditure.
Staff said the retrofit is intended as a longer-term solution to withstand horse traffic and that the materials purchased will inform future repairs and extensions of the irrigation system.
