Mineola officials: Western Beef truck staging persists; indoor pickleball facility application expected

Trustee Glassman asked for an update on the use of a property by Western Beef that has been used to stage trucks during renovations. Mr. O'Keefe, identified in the meeting as the village's building department superintendent, said he had visited the site and observed ongoing work including drainage and paving; officials said the company had planned to vacate the lot in February but remained on site as of the meeting.

Board members said they have continued to press the property owner and have visited the site weekly to monitor progress. Officials said the current work appears to include reworking drainage and paving in phases so trucks and equipment can be stored more orderly. Separately, officials said the village expects an application soon to convert a former Great Neck Soil manufacturing site on East Second Street into an indoor pickleball facility. The board described that proposed use as "a much cleaner, environmentally more friendly, and certainly more welcoming use" than the prior industrial operation; an application and formal board review were described as forthcoming.
