Waste Management updates Silver Springs transfer station timeline; neighborhood pickup program expanded

Kendra Dostoilecki, representing Waste Management of Nevada Inc., updated the Lyon County Board of Commissioners on the company’s planned Silver Springs transfer station and changes to the neighborhood cleanup program.
Dostoilecki said Waste Management has completed the purchase of the 2425 Almond Drive property and that site planning and design are about 50% complete. She told the board permitting is expected by June and that a groundbreaking is targeted for mid to late fall 2025, with completion aimed for March 2026.
On the neighborhood cleanup program, Dostoilecki said the company revised rules after customer feedback. Customers may now call at any time to schedule item pickup and will have two large items collected at no extra charge; additional items will be charged $11.52 per item. The sticker system used previously will be eliminated, and customers can schedule pickups across days or months.
Commissioners thanked Waste Management for the update and posed operational questions such as whether tire collection remains part of the program; Dostoilecki said one bulk item equals up to four tires. No formal county action was requested or taken during the presentation.
