The Michigan City Parks and Recreation Board approved a pilot expansion of the City Kids Day Camp program called Park Play, which will send counselors to neighborhood parks on weekdays in June and July.
According to staff, Park Play will visit two parks per day, Monday through Friday, and counselors will ask parents to register children on the department’s app so waivers and contact information can be collected. Staff said the program is no cost and is intended to pilot regular park programming and help identify which parks would benefit from ongoing activities.
Board members asked staff to share the schedule with local schools for outreach; staff agreed. A public commenter praised the program and thanked a named staff member for organizing it.
The board moved and approved the Park Play/City Kids Day Camp expansion by voice vote; staff will publish the schedule and begin registration once administrative steps are complete.
