Park board approves Marquette High School golf use agreement; department announces PGA hire

The Michigan City Parks and Recreation Board approved a standard course-use agreement with Marquette High School authorizing the school’s golf team to use city courses.
Park Department staff also announced the hiring of Paul Cornwell as a PGA golf professional. Staff said Cornwell began March 11, has experience with point-of-sale and inventory management, has reviewed the memorandum of understanding and is working with both area high schools to schedule youth golf tournaments.
A board member moved to approve the Marquette High School golf course use agreement; a second was given and the motion carried by voice vote.
The vote approved the MOU as presented; staff said Cornwell’s hiring should improve pro-shop operations and youth program scheduling but no new budget appropriation was announced at this meeting.
