Committee liaison updates noted the dog‑park working group is pausing plans for town meeting after parents and caregivers raised safety and proximity concerns about a proposed Shuttleworth site near Pine Hill Elementary; group will regroup and solicit more community input.
A committee liaison reported on March 20 that a proposed town dog‑park project will not move forward to Town Meeting in its current form after families raised safety and proximity concerns about a Shuttleworth location near Pine Hill School.
The liaison said the working group is "regrouping, resetting our goals, revisiting the objectives" and will collect more community feedback before proposing anything for Town Meeting. She thanked parents, caregivers and community members — including Reid Jones of Pine Hill and Asanka Moring of CPAC — for attending meetings and explaining how the Shuttleworth access point would come too close to Pine Hill and the trailhead.
"Coming from that, there's an understanding and an agreement, that, you know, that the way Shuttleworth is, that location, the access point to it being so close to, you know, Pine Hill... in its current configuration, it's obviously not a viable solution," the liaison said.
Committee members said student safety remains the priority, and the working group will solicit additional feedback over the next couple of months to reset objectives and look for alternative locations or designs.
No formal vote or binding commitment to a new site was made at the committee meeting; the working group will continue discussions and report back to stakeholders.
