The superintendent announced at the March 20 meeting that Westwood Public Schools has completed a national search and hired a new athletic director to replace Matt Gillis.

The superintendent named "Rich Card Varrier" as the hire and asked the incoming director to introduce himself. The incoming athletic director introduced himself as Kurt and said he is "really, really excited" to join Westwood and is already meeting coaches and students at the district's lacrosse fields.

The superintendent thanked Matt Gillis for his years of service and said Gillis will remain with the district through a transition; the new athletic director will not formally start until July 1, allowing a spring transition period.

No formal vote was recorded on the hire during the meeting; the superintendent presented it as a finalized administrative appointment.
