Public Works told the committee March 14 that residents had complained about a dark stretch near 28 Woodside Avenue following a recent windstorm, and staff recommended installing one LED fixture on an existing pole at an estimated cost of $1,446.
Director Jeff Elligan said the current spacing along that run is about 225 feet between lights, well beyond the roughly 50-foot spacing recommended for modern streetlight installations; the dark gap crosses a portion of the borough’s mainline Greenway and staff emphasized the additional benefit to bicyclists and pedestrians. Staff recommended contracting the same vendor used for the borough’s recent LED retrofit to install a light on an existing pole.
Staff also suggested notifying homes that will experience the new lighting and noted that not every house on the block requested it. Committee members raised no objections and agreed staff could proceed without a formal committee vote because the cost was minimal and funding was available through routine maintenance budgets.
No formal motion was taken at the March 14 meeting; staff will proceed with procurement and notify affected residents.
