Parks and Recreation reports strong early-season bookings, Tree City USA effort and upcoming events

George Baumgart, Mount Pleasant Parks and Recreation Manager, gave the commission a short first‑quarter report March 19 on registrations, grants and events.
Baumgart said reservations and program registrations for the 2025 season are currently about 50% of last year's totals with two months elapsed in the reservation period; the Parks and Recreation community room already has reached roughly half of last year’s reservation volume and is booked about 75–80% of weekends. He told commissioners the village received a $25,000 urban forestry grant and has issued a request for proposals for a tree inventory and urban‑forestry management plan; RFP responses are due April 4. Baumgart also said the department will begin spring startup work in April, hire seasonal staff and has scheduled two upcoming community events — Cottontail Trail on March 29 and the village’s first Arbor Day celebration on April 26 tied to the forestry grant and the village’s pursuit of Tree City USA recognition.
Baumgart also reported that Campus Park was awarded a state design award for projects over $3,500,000; he accepted the award on behalf of the village at the Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association conference.
