Students, theater staff say Fairmont Elementary production builds confidence

Theater representative, program representative, said the show and the theater program provide resources that help students succeed on stage and beyond. "Being overly prepared to go out from an audience and do a great job is truly invaluable experience. Here at New Albany Children's Theater, we really strive to make sure that every child has every tool they could possibly need to be successful. And so they have access to a wonderful script, a beautiful set, a fabulous costume, and what you've got is a very confident kid who can take their experience into their next audition or into their next presentation for a science fair project. Literally any task they need to do in front of others, they will feel self confident, and that is our mission here at our theater program," the theater representative said.
Students described personal benefits from performing. Student 1, student, said: "Acting in the show helps me show courage. Building the courage to show myself. Some people, they just think that people are okay just with them being on stage and playing for them, when really it's kinda tough. People have to build their courage just to get out there and do performances for people. So it's kind of hard, but kind of easy at the same time." Student 2, student, added: "You're a good man, Charlie Brown. It's fun. I love performing because, like, some people you don't know at the start, and once you get closer to the end, you make friends with that person. And it's like, once you know someone in theater, you'll know them for the rest of your life. It's fun because you know yourself, and you just get to act like a whole another person." The same student later said, "It's funny because all the things you do, you get to act like a cartoon. It's just fun."
Speakers said the Fairmont production has grown into what they described as a magnet program that draws students from across the school corporation. The theater representative framed those elements as part of the program’s mission to equip students for future public presentations and auditions. No funding amounts, enrollment figures, dates for future performances or formal votes on the program were provided in the transcript.
