Board approves charter and amendments to establish MPS Audit Committee, 7–0
Summary
The board approved the creation of a Milwaukee Public Schools Audit Committee and adopted suggested amendments to the proposed charter, including adding open‑meetings language and adjusting membership balance. The motion passed unanimously.
Director Zomber presented suggested amendments to the proposed audit‑committee charter and moved to approve the changes. The amendments included adding a sentence that meetings of the committee “are subject to the requirements of open meetings laws” under the section on meetings, quorum and absences, and replacing one of the two OAE non‑staff members with a non‑staff member who would be nominated by the board to improve membership balance. The charter retains five voting members and preserves the requirement that one voting member be a certified public accountant or certified internal auditor.
Director Seamsen seconded the motion. The secretary called the roll; the motion carried 7–0.
Board documents show the Office of Accountability and Efficiency will identify potential committee members and bring them forward for the board’s review at the May AFMP meeting and then to the full board for approval.
The board’s action establishes the audit committee as a standing advisory body under the charter amendments adopted at this meeting.
