Glendora schedules Earth Day events April 26 with shuttles, collection drives and family activities

The Community Services Commission received an overview of Glendora’s Earth Day celebration, a free public event scheduled for Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring collection drives, family programming and guided shuttle tours.

John Aguirre of the Recreation and Human Services Department said the event will operate at two main locations: collection services in a drive‑through lane at City Hall and activities at the Finkbinder Park bandshell and surrounding areas. Collection offerings at City Hall will include document shredding (up to 10 boxes per household), used motor oil and filter collection, and beverage‑container recycling; Aguirre said proceeds from beverage‑container recycling will go to a local foundation.

Programming at Finkbinder Park will include a children’s area with bounce houses, face painting and scavenger hunts; a SoCal jungle reptile show inside the Legion building at 9:30 a.m.; and an Arbor Day tree‑planting demonstration at 10 a.m. The city will offer an urban‑trail preview walk of the proposed Little Dalton Wash at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., leaving from the corner of Mountain View and Cullen Avenue, and shuttles to Big Dalton Wilderness hikes departing from the bandshell. New workshops at the Liberty House will cover “Water 101” at 9:30 a.m. and turf conversion at 11 a.m.

Aguirre said community partners and city departments — public works, police, library, community development and recreation — will staff information booths, and that food vendors will include Kona Ice, Hot Dog on a Stick and Triple Bean Pizza. He said safety and police support influenced a decision not to hold a bike tour this year after officers advised the city that an escorted street bike tour would pose safety concerns.
