Commissioners OK ordinance language conditioning Nordic Valley Way vacation on new road installation

Weber County commissioners discussed a proposed vacation of a segment of Nordic Valley Way at Nordic Village Resort and confirmed ordinance language that would prevent the vacation from taking effect until the new road alignment is installed and accepted by the county.

Tammy (county staff) and Rick Grover presented the application from Nordic Village Ventures showing the section proposed for vacation and the new alignment, which shifts the road slightly to the east. Tammy said the draft vacation ordinance "includes language that states that the vacation won't take effect until the new road has been planted, installed, and accepted by Weber County." Commissioner Furr and engineering staff said they were comfortable moving the item toward a hearing and emphasized traffic-safety details at a new intersection; staff discussed traffic-calming options including a three-way stop or similar measures.

Commissioner Harvey asked that construction staging not impede resident access during installation and said the county should ensure residents can reach their property while work proceeds. Staff said the developer has committed to staging that maintains access and that, once the new road is accepted, the old road could be used for construction purposes as needed.

Commissioners asked staff to confirm that dedication and installation language remains in the final ordinance and to verify the intersection design and any required traffic controls before final approval. The item was noticed for a hearing on the 20th, and staff said the developer plans to begin road installation later in the spring.
