The announcer said the format matters for spectators because "rally scoring is whoever wins the point gets the point, as opposed to the old days where you had to be serving to get the point," and described how the scoreboard would show the serving team.
"This is a rally scoring. So for those of you that haven't watched volleyball in a little while, you know, rally scoring is whoever wins the point gets the point, as opposed to the old days where you had to be serving to get the point," the event announcer said. He noted the scoreboard will indicate the server: "that'll be that little green dot at the top of the next to the score. Whoever has the the serve will have the green dot next to them."
The announcer added that play was about to begin and introduced "Rich Martin."
