The Hopkinton Town Council voted Feb. 3, 2025, to send a resolution to the school committee supporting the Charlestown Cowboys football team and cheerleading organization’s use of Cherry Hill High School’s football field for home games.

The resolution, read into the record by a council member, stated the team and cheerleading squads are an internal part of the Hopkinton and Charlestown communities and that allowing the teams to use the Cherry Hill field provides an established, appropriate venue for up to five home games without evening lighting (the teams currently lack field lighting and use of generators was discussed). The sponsor said the resolution is a recommendation to the school committee rather than a council vote changing school policy.

A motion to send the resolution to the school committee was made and seconded; roll-call votes recorded James, Davis, Roy and others as voting in favor. Councilors noted the limited number of home games and observed the use would not require evening lighting. The motion to forward the resolution carried unanimously among those voting.
