Lufkin council reappoints members and fills vacancies across multiple boards and commissions
Summary
Council moved and approved a series of reappointments and new appointments to advisory boards and commissions including the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, Civil Service Commission, Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals, 4B Economic Development board, HOTT board, Parks & Rec Advisory Board and Claims/Zoning Commission.
At its regular meeting the Lufkin City Council received nominations and approved multiple reappointments and new appointments to city boards and commissions.
Kara (staff) walked the council through vacancies and applications for each board. The council reappointed the listed members to the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee (including Dr. Seiler, Assistant City Manager Bray, Director Morgan Williams and Leslie Montez as noted in the packet). The council reappointed Pat Nicholson to the Civil Service Commission.
For the Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals the council approved applications from David Golden (architect), Brandon Ferrara (AC trade) and Andrew Moore (commercial contractor). The 4B Economic Development Board reappointments of Thigpen, Grieve and Schenkel were approved; an additional application from Monica Peters Clark was noted in the packet.
On the HOTT board, members were limited by a two-term restriction: Carraway Hammacher and Ms. Crocker were ineligible for reappointment. The council reappointed Miss Coda for one more term and approved appointments of Jessica Knight (Best Western), Charles Chapman (self-employed) and Chris Johnson (Whataburger). The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board saw reappointments of Kimberly Jackson and Darlene Sparks and the addition of Jeffrey Rogers. The Claims and Zoning Commission action continued Nathan Gann and appointed Donna Green to a vacancy created by the passing of Keith Green. Several of the listed boards meet only on an as-needed basis when variances or appeals are filed.
Each item was moved and seconded and the council announced approval for the motions; the transcript records voice votes of "aye" and the mayor saying the motions carried but does not provide roll-call tallies or record dissenting individual votes.
