The Gage County Board of Supervisors on March 5 approved a package of routine and administrative items including claims, a state-required needs assessment for the county detention facility, the appointment of a new veteran service officer and a services contract with Maximus for cost-allocation work through Dec. 31, 2029.
The consent agenda — which included approval of the meeting minutes for Feb. 19, 2025; approval of all claims through March 5, 2025 totaling $517,757.66; and the call for bids for a 2024-or-newer 1-ton 4x4 regular cab pickup (long box) to be opened April 2, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. — passed by a 4-0 vote after a motion by Lytle and second by Dorn.
Why it matters: these approvals maintain county operations (claims and vehicle procurement), advance planning for the county jail, confirm a veteran-service appointment that requires state vetting, and continue a long-standing financial-services contract intended to recover reimbursements for child-support administration.
Detention facility needs assessment The board received and put on file a needs assessment for the county detention facility prepared by Prohaska. County staff said the assessment was prepared "as part of the requirements of the state of Nebraska." The motion to place the Prohaska report on file was made by Lytle, seconded by Adams, and passed 4-0.
Veteran Service Officer appointment The board pre-approved and then approved appointing Kyle Mick as the Gage County Veteran Service Officer. County staff told the board the veteran committee had interviewed candidates and that the state had already completed vetting in this instance; the board voted 4-0 on a motion by Lytle, seconded by Adams. County staff said Mr. Mick will be brought before the board in person before he begins in the role.
Maximus cost-allocation services agreement The board approved renewing a services agreement with Maximus U.S. for preparation of the county's cost-allocation plan through Dec. 31, 2029. County staff described the contractor's role as reviewing court and district clerk information that supports state reimbursement for child-support services. The motion by Adams, second by Lytle, passed 4-0.
Procurement and grant planning The board approved acceptance of rock and gravel bids (motion by Dorn, second by Adams, 4-0) and approved a request for qualifications (RFQ) for engineering services related to a CPF grant (motion by Adam, second by Lytle, 4-0). Staff also closed sealed bids and later recommended award for the Philly Southwest overlay project (covered in a separate article).
911 and EMS agreements Board members discussed upcoming renegotiation needs for the county's 911 dispatch agreement with the city and separate ambulance/EMS funding agreements. Staff reminded the board that the county had missed a 90-day notice window on a prior agreement and recommended handling dispatch and ambulance funding discussions through the law enforcement committee or a special subcommittee.
